Beloved Community = Sustainable Development Goal 11

What if churches provided transitional housing for discharged patients who have no place to call home?

In Nashville, Tennessee, a church named Glencliff United Methodist Church is doing that – together with Open Table Nashville – “a non-profit, interfaith community that disrupts cycles of poverty, journeys with the marginalized and provides education about issues of homelessness.”

Those who live there will be cared for by health, social and spiritual professionals as permanent housing is sought on their behalf.

This social media video was produced by Harper Hill Global as a way of highlighting the underlying faith principle:

From birth to glory, we are meant to live in beloved community.

The Village at Glencliff also illustrates Sustainable Development Goal 11:

“Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.”

With mainline church membership in the United States on the decline, could this be a model for others who wish to remain committed to the highest ideals?
