On July 22, 2020, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo His Excellency Felix Tshisekedi lifted the measures of the State of Health Emergency, with stores, banks, restaurants, bars, cafés, businesses resuming on July 23rd. Some resumed unofficially prior to this date.

The most important date to remember is undoubtedly August 15 – with places of worship, discos, stadiums and performance halls, such as ports, airports and borders scheduled to reopen. The resumption of migratory movements between provinces will also occur at that time.

Bishop Gabriel Unda calls on faithful United Methodists to be “vigilant as the end of the State of Emergency does not mean the end of COVID-19.” Bishop Unda calls on all clergy and lay leaders to “continue to observe the barrier measures.”

United Methodist Women gave themselves to sensitize grassroots communities to fight against COVID-19 in Kivu.

Mother Mbilizi Bonane, president of United Methodist Women in Bukavu, shares that with the grant received from Harper Hill Global, “We bought megaphones which allowed us to carry out sensitizations at the community level in the towns of Bukavu and Goma.”

Dr Marie Claire Unda (who is Bishop Unda’s wife) thanks their partner Harper Hill Global for its support in raising awareness on the prevention of COVID-19 in Kivu, adding, “We should not sit back, but continue to educate our communities on the dangers of this disease.”
